A stunning viral boat dip recipe made with a hollowed bread boat, creamy sour cream and cream cheese filling, shredded cheddar, rotisserie chicken, green onions, and savory seasonings for an easy party appetizer.

  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 6-8 people 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large round bread loaf
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 cups shredded rotisserie chicken
  • 1/2 cup diced green onions
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika, optional
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, optional garnish

Instructions

  1. Slice off the top quarter of the round bread loaf using a serrated knife.
  2. Hollow out the interior of the loaf carefully, leaving a 1/4-inch shell on the bottom and sides.
  3. Tear the removed bread into bite-sized pieces and set aside for serving.
  4. Brush the interior walls and top edge of the hollowed loaf with melted butter mixed with garlic powder and salt.
  5. Place the bread boat on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  6. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  7. Combine the softened cream cheese and sour cream in a large mixing bowl.
  8. Stir until completely smooth.
  9. Add 1 1/2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese.
  10. Fold gently until evenly incorporated.
  11. Season with garlic powder, salt, black pepper, and paprika if using.
  12. Spread half of the cream cheese mixture into the prepared bread boat.
  13. Layer the shredded rotisserie chicken over the cream cheese base.
  14. Top the chicken with half of the diced green onions.
  15. Add the remaining cream cheese mixture as the final layer.
  16. Smooth the top evenly.
  17. Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of cheddar cheese over the top.
  18. Bake for 20-25 minutes until the cheese melts and turns golden brown.
  19. Remove from the oven when the bread edges are crispy and the filling bubbles at the sides.
  20. Let the dip cool for 3-5 minutes before serving.
  21. Sprinkle with the remaining green onions and fresh parsley if desired.
  22. Place the bread boat on a serving platter.
  23. Arrange the reserved bread pieces around the base.
  24. Serve immediately while warm and creamy.

Notes

Use a sturdy sourdough, Italian, or ciabatta loaf so the bread boat holds its shape. Pat the shredded chicken dry before layering to prevent a watery filling. Let the dip cool briefly after baking so the filling sets slightly before serving.
